Performance Solutions are a great initiative to enable flexibility in design and potentially save costs while complying with the BCA.

The Building Code of Australia specifies that compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC) is achieved by complying with:

1. the Governing Requirements of the NCC; and

2. the Performance Requirements.

Performance Requirements are satisfied through:

1. A Performance Solution.

2. Deemed-to-Satisfy Solution; or 

3. A combination of (a) and (b)

Note that Deemed-to-Satisfy Solutions are the design requirements prescribed within each Clause of the BCA, while a Performance Solutions are non-prescribed designs that are developed through adhering to and demonstrating that the Performance Requirements have been satisfied.
